Carlos Ponce is a well known and versatile actor, singer, composer and television star. Born in Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, Ponce began his acting career at age six when he appeared in a number of television commercials. He continued acting and was active in his high school drama club in Humacao, Puerto Rico. When his parents immigrated to Miami in 1986, he became involved in the production of plays at South Miami High School.
Ponce was named the best student actor in the southern region of the U.S. and he was involved in the Southeastern Theatre Conference competing to win a scholarship. He won the scholarship and attended the New World School of the Arts Conservatory. When offered an opportunity to host the show Hablando by Univision, Ponce left school and began his adult career. This was the first television work for Ponce other than commercials.
When Hablando was cancelled, Ponce landed a role on the Mexican soap opera Fuego en la Sangre produced by Televisa Studios. He also had a starring role on another soap opera, Sentimientos Ajenos. In addition to acting on the show, he recorded the theme song. He received awards from both Eres magazine and TV y Novelas magazine. On production breaks he hosted the show Control for Univision for three years.
Carlos Ponce joined the team of Entertainment Tonight as a regular correspondent in 2003 and hosted the show's special, Celebrity Weddings Unveiled, for CBS prime time. He also hosted the 2006 Miss Universe Pageant in Los Angeles. He returned to Spanish language television in 2007 in the Telemundo NBC Universal Studios telenovela (soap opera) Dame Chocolate with Genesis Rodriguez and Karla Monroig.
In addition to his television success, Carlos Ponce has built a reputation as a character actor in the United States. Although he has never landed a starring role in a Hollywood movie, he has appeared in supporting roles in the comedy films Deuce Bigalow:European Gigolo (2005), Couples Retreat (2009), Just My Luck (2006) and the animated film Rio (2011). In the non animated films he is type cast as a hot Latin lover.
In addition to his film and television career, Carlos Ponce is a well known recording artist in Central and South America. His first self titled album reached #1 in the Latin Billboards of the United States and was #1 on the Central American charts. The album received a Double Platinum Award for worldwide sales. In 1999 Ponce received awards for the Best Pop Album, Billboard Magazine and Artist Revelation from Premios Lo Nuestra.
Carlos Ponce has additional acting credits including 12 appearances on the long running U.S. prime time drama, 7th Heaven. He played Inspector Raddimus in the short lived Fox TV series, Vanished, and revised the role for the Canadian miniseries, Stranded. He is most popular in Central and South America although he continues to appear in supporting roles in U.S. television and film productions.
